Squam, Sunapee and Winnipesaukee all have features that attract waterfront owners to a lifestyle that is very different from one lake to the other.

Sunapee is 4125 acres

Squam is NH second largest lake at 6791 acres

Winnispesaukee is 44,422 acres

Sunapee's draw is a large lake with Mount Sunapee Ski Area within 10 minutes of most homes on the lake.  At either end of the lake you have town docks where you can pull in and get and ice cream or a quick meal. The only fast food restaurants around the lake are an occasional Dunkin Donuts that are built to blend in the surroundings.  Hiking - Golf -  Competitive Sailing - Ice Boating, Fishing are enjoyed by all. Active lifestyle with the main focus the water and the mountain activities.

Squam, the people are different.  This lake is all about a slow pace and back to nature.  No shopping centers, no fast food, not even a Dunkin Donuts. What you will find is open shoreline tons of coves, islands to explore and spectacular mountain views. There is one attractions and it is my favorite in the lakes region. Visiting New Hampshire or You Live Here! 70 Great Things to do!!

Laconia Bike Week - Breakfast Break

Laconia Bike Week - Breakfast Break

I have lived in NH my whole life and I came across this list of Fun things to do with the family.  Of the 70 on the list I have 45 that I will have to add to my bucket list.  Robie's Store is on the list, I believe it is closed now looking for a new owner.  I grew up just up the hill from this landmark and can share many stories from presidential visits to French's that was across the street and some great fishing in the Merrimack.  Currently I am sitting in Meredith with the roar of motorcycles everywhere. The event ends Fathers Day June 21st.  Motorcycles are visiting from Canada to Florida. Thousands of Bikes!

These are some fun activities and all kinds of interesting things to do -- indoors and outdoors -- in all seasons to entertain you and your family on your New Hampshire vacation or getaway. It is smart to phone ahead or check the website of an attraction to confirm hours, especially for activities affected by weather.

This week Paula closed on this beautiful waterfront property. A 1957 restored year-round lake cottage, located in South Wolfeboro, with magnificent gardens, circular drive & brick walkways.  There was a  walkout deck looking west towards the waterfront, a permanently covered u-shape deep water dock & sandy walk in beach. The interior had been redone starting with a European style entrance to the kitchen with granite counters & warm cherry cupboards. The whole front is glassed, enticing you to to the adjoining deck and allowing enjoyment of the westerly views over the water.  This lovely waterfront home sold for $835,000 a bargain in Wolfeboro.

Have You Ever Visited Squam Lake? Information about the Lake and area.

Have You Ever Visited Squam Lake?

Squam Lake, the second largest lake in New Hampshire, is over 6,700 acres with a maximum depth of 98 feet.

Of particular interest regarding Squam Lake, is that it is not the usual Lakes Region shoreline - packed with cottages - here you will find open shorelines with large family estates, and the occasional Moose walking along. In fact, it's so picturesque that the 1981 film On Golden Pond was filmed here on Squam Lake.

Little Squam Lake is a 408 acre lake with a maximum depth of 84 feet, that feeds directly into big Squam. Little Squam takes on a winter wonderland life of its own in the winter when an airstrip is plowed across the lake for local pilots to land their planes, and a path is plowed around the 4.3 mile shoreline for ice skating.
