Concord, NH - The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (DES) is ready to help homeowners and contractors with the many building-season projects that need permits prior to work beginning. DES has updated the "Got Permits?" poster/guide for land development projects, to help quickly and easily identify what type of permit may be needed. All permit types have web guides which will help you through the process.

Most construction activities, especially when done near lakes, ponds, rivers, streams or wetlands, require permits. DES is busy processing permits to help landowners get ready for the summer season. Potential applicants are encouraged to visit the DES website to access some easy to use on-line tools to determine if you need a permit. Both the Got Permits? poster and the on-line tools are available on the DES website at www.des.nh.gov  search for the Land Resources Management Program on the A to Z list.

DES encourages anyone considering a construction project on or near our waterways to review these convenient tools and to seek advice from DES.  Non-permitted activity can cause environmental damage, including flooding nearby property, degrading lake or downstream water quality and/or harming fish and wildlife habitat. Property owners can avoid costly restoration expenses and project delays by educating themselves to the permit requirements and acting now to get the appropriate permits so projects can be completed this building season.
