What New Hampshire Lakes and Regions which will work for your family?

What New Hampshire lake will work for your family?  Part 3.

With over 250 lakes in the greater lakes region choices are endless.  Let's look at a regions of the state and slowly work across the state at some top lake choices in each area.  Parts 1 and 2 reviewed Rt 16 and the Lakes Region. The Sunapee region is especially popular with commuters coming from Western Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Heading west there are some great lakes, but my favorite would be Lake Sunapee.  Sunapee has crystal clear water, 11 islands, 3 light houses on 4125 acre to explore. The towns around the lake are Newbury, Sunapee and New London referred to as the Gold Coast.  Much of the shoreline is rocky or gravel with the Gold Coast offering sandy beaches and sunsets. Lake Sunapee Yacht Club hosts of a large inland fleet of Star class one design racing boats and offers an active weekend racing schedule and during the winter the lake is active with DN ice Lake Sunapee Lakefront Home sailing. The main attraction to this wonderful lake is Mount Sunapee Ski Resort that almost touches the shoreline at Sunapee State Park featuring a sandy beach and boat launch. The whole lake area expresses a quaint New England location. You will not find box stores or fast food restaurants around the lake. The lake is easy access to Interstate 89 just north of Concord and south of the Dartmouth region. Prices start at $850,000.

One of my favorite smaller lakes in this region is 600 acre Pleasant Lake in New London. New London depicts what you would picture as a quaint New England college town with the perfect downtown. The lake is perfect for water sports, kayaking with some great salmon fishing. The lake is minutes off Exit 89 and the Sunapee Country Club is close by. Most of the shoreline is sandy with fantastic views of Mount Kearsarge.  Mount Sunapee Ski Area, Ragged Ski and Golf, Concord, and Dartmouth are 25 minutes from the lake.  Homes start at $750,000.

Just to the south you will find Franklin Pierce Lake also known as Jackman Reservoir  in Antrim and Hillsborough. The lake is 483 acres with a sandy bottom. Hillsborough is your closest town where you will find restaurants and shopping.  The lake is perfect for water sports, kayaking or just cruising the shoreline in your pontoon boat. Golf courses are close by with Pat Peak and Crotched Mountain ski areas are just a short drive from the lake. This lake is popular with families looking for a lake they can raise a family on the water with Keene, Concord and Manchester an easy commute.
