Otters In Hermit Lake

Last week I look out the window and notice some movement in the water.

Otters In the Pond

Typically we see ducks and geese but what a treat to see 3 otters swimming around.  This was not our first encounter with the otter family.  Two winters ago when the pond was frozen over and snow was drifted up on the shoreline I noticed some black spots appearing and disappearing on the ice. I kept my binocular trained on the spot and up through the ice the whole otter appeared. Within 15 minutes 5 otters were on the ice climbing the snow drift and sliding down. Frantically I looked for my camera only to find it obviously to late. Living next on the water is such a treat. I did manage a picture of these guys playing. Wish I had a better camera!!
