This emergency alert goes into effect May 11 through June 15, 2016. The black flies will be swarming the area and they suggest you retreat to higher grounds where the breeze will keep them at bay.
One suggested site is the Squam River Landing Community high on the ridge looking over the lake and mountains. While you are up top getting relief from the black flies take a look at the new homes just constructed and ask to view the model home. A brief description of the homes and community are below.
The vintage inspired Adirondack is a model of HERS efficiency principles with insulated concrete forms and geo-thermal heat. A grand porch welcomes guests and family in style and the classic but sophisticated theme carries throughout the home. This home showcases our "lifestyle package" and includes a BOAT SLIP at Riveredge Marina. Squam River Landing is a Sustainable Living Community which answers the call to conserve and protect. Homesites overlooking the Squam Watershed will preserve the beauty of the area while minimally impacting the land. The community is a fully recreational winter/summer fantasyland with snowmobile and snowshoeing trails throughout the acreage and access to Squam Lake through the affiliate-owned Riveredge Marina. The marina offers day docking, boat slips, boathouses, and a valet service with dry berths. The Community Center and roof top deck are available for use as well as the town beach on Little Squam. Go over the Covered Bridge and up the hill to view this community.
