The attraction to New Hampshire besides no sales or income tax is the close proximity to Boston, mountains, and lakes. The southern NH lakes offer lakefront owners the ability to raise their family on a quality lake with above average income potential. ( Pawtuckaway - Bow - Pleasant - Northwood are perfect examples ) 
Each of the northern regions of the state offers different features that attract the retirement community and young families looking to build lasting memories. I personally divide the state into above and below the notches. Above the notches often creates a commuting problem. Most want to be within 2 hours of their lake or mountain property and the drive time above the notches can exceed 4 hours in some cases.

Mount Washington Valley is home to Mount Washington and some great ski resorts in NH they include Attitash, Wildcat, Bretton Woods and Cranmore. There are several major lakes in the area that give you access to these ski resorts along with all your shopping and outlets needs plus major attractions. You will find an abundance of hiking trails, fishing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and some of the best rock climbing in NH in the MWV. The lakes in the area would include north to south, Conway, Ossipee, Dan Hole, Duncan, Province, Pine River, Lovell, Great East, and Balch Lake. Each lake offers different boating and fishing opportunities, Ossipee being the largest at 3000 acres with 4 large bays to smaller lakes less than 100 acres. Access to this region, Route 16 or Route 25.
To the west lies the Lake Sunapee Region. Lake Sunapee is the main attraction with over 4000 acres offering an active sailing community, fishing, all water sports. Mount Sunapee Ski Area, which has 233 acres of skiing is the centerpiece ski area of this region. Mount Sunapee is host to 4 seasons of activities from a Zip Line to the NH Craftsmen’s Fair. The lake and mountain almost touch at the Sunapee State Park. This quaint region is not home to chain restaurants and box stores. The area has held onto its New England charm where you will find some great restaurants, golf courses and plenty of hiking trails. Just to the north, you find Dartmouth College and a hidden ski resort the Dartmouth Ski Area, also the Eastman Lake Community with golf, cross country skiing, and clubhouse that includes an indoor pool. Lakes in the area include Perkins, Goose, Mascoma, Kolelemook, Pleasant, Massacecum, Highland, Ashuelot, and Blaisdell Lake. Let's not forget Ragged Mountain Ski and Golf Resort in Danbury. In the center of the state, you will find the Lakes Region. This region is all about the lakes! The major lakes include Winnipesaukee, 42,000 acres, Squam 6700 acres, Winnisquam, Newfound 4000 acres, Wentworth 3000 acres, Merrymeeting, Waukewan 1000 acres plus hundreds of additional lakes with 250 to 600 acres. Winnipesaukee has it all, the ports around the lake include Wolfeboro, Meredith, Center Harbor, Alton and the Weirs in Laconia where you can park your boat and go out to dinner or shop. You will find over 250 islands with 2 popular bridged islands Governors and Black Cat Island. You could spend the whole summer at the lake and never get in your car. You can boat to get groceries, attend a concert or even go out to the movies. Squam has a mystic that surrounds the lake, the shoreline has miles of shoreline without cottages dotting the shore, a back to nature paradise. Though 6700 acres you will find more kayaks and canoes than motorboats and no cigarette boats. Newfound is the cleanest lake in the state with Plymouth just to the north and Winnisquam is a commuter's choice with Laconia on the eastern shore. Gunstock Ski Resort, with zip line, mountain coaster, cross country trails are minutes to Winnipesaukee or Winnisquam. From Exit 23 on 93, you can reach all the major lakes in 15 minutes and Ragged, Loon, Waterville, and Cannon are within 30 minutes. All the lakes in this region put you close to all the major attractions Winnipesaukee has to offer along with hundreds of restaurants and outlet shopping.
