Halfmoon Lake Profile - Alton, Barnstead  NH

Lakefront Monday highlights different lakes in New Hampshire. This page is sponsored by Lady of the Lake Realty in Meredith NH. If you want information on a lake e-mail us for lake profile You can view other available lake listings on our website. www.nhlakesrealty.com

Halfmoon lake is 283 acres located just off Rt 28. The average depth is 17 and a maximum depth of 27 feet and flows into Locke Lake.  There are no motor boating restrictions but jet skis are not allowed on Saturdays for Sundays ( RSA 270:74-a  ).  Boat launches are located off Rt 28 and North Barnstead Rd. This warm water lake is mesotrophic and has largemouth bass and pickerel.

The lake has an active successful Loon nesting program with a man-made nest set in April, eagle sightings are common also.

The lake has a mix of year-round homes and cottages. The location just north of Concord makes the lake a perfect setting to commute to work. To the north is Alton Bay home to the southern tip of Lake Winnipesaukee.   Camp Mi-Te-Na is located in the northwestern end of the lake.  The lake association is active in checking to make sure the lake is protected for future generations.

Mount Major is just to the north one of the favorite hiking locations in NH along with Gunstock Ski Resort, a four-season resort.  One of my favorite activities is picking blueberries at the farm just located off North Barnstead Rd.
